Vscan: Ultra-sound technology that fits in your pocket
When GE CEO Jeff Immelt unveiled the Vscan at the Web 2.0 Conference in San Francisco, he said that it has potential to become the “stethoscope of the 21st century.” The pocket-sized portable ultra-sound device provides doctors with an immediate method to help see what’s happening inside a body – one that can always be at their disposal. With the Vscan, there will no longer be the need to set up ultrasound appointments, or even for the patient to come to the hospital. Easy access to this technology for both doctors and patients will allow for quicker, cheaper and better diagnosis.
Also, due to its light-weight (under a pound), portable nature and easy-to-charge battery, the device can also be seen as playing a key role in serving patients in remote areas as well as areas stricken by disasters.
