GE’s global Ecochallenge - Time to put your best ideas to work
GE’s global ecomagination challenge that was launched mid-July is doing phenomenally well. The challenge has already received over 950 entries from more than 60 countries with more than 11,000 votes!
GE’s ecochallenge invites people to come together to take on one of the world’s toughest challenges – building the next-generation power grid to meet the needs of the 21st century. GE will award $200 million to winning ideas, making it the largest challenge of its kind.
So far from the region the challenge has received submissions from Qatar, Oman, Jordan, and Algeria.
The most popular entry so far is for solar roadways. The idea aims to provide more clean energy than can be used by retrofitting roads, parking lots, etc., with structurally-engineered recyclable solar panels that are driven upon. This will reduce greenhouse gases, create countless green jobs, and eliminate dependence on oil by allowing electric vehicles to recharge virtually anywhere. Another submission is the idea of using artificial intelligence systems to improve grid efficiency. Click here to learn more.
