A Better View of Cancer: Helping Combat UAE’s Third Leading Cause of Mortality
You might be surprised to learn that cancer is the third leading cause of death in the UAE. What are first and second? Cardiovascular disease and road accidents. To reduce cancer mortality, early detection and timely treatment are key.
One of the best ways to do that is to get a clearer view of the cancer. The UAE’s first digital Positron Emission Tomography – Computed Tomography (PET/CT) system from GE Healthcare will do just that. It delivers outstanding image resolution, helping clinicians improve the detection of even small malignant tissues.
The Discovery MI PET/CT system, which is being installed at the Gulf International Cancer Center (GICC) in Abu Dhabi, incorporates a unique set of technologies to help clinicians diagnose disease earlier and better guide treatment strategies.
The system, which was installed at the end of June, is the industry’s only PET/CT system that brings together the sensitivity of digital detection with the most innovative reconstruction technology available. This combination is what helps give it such a high image resolution.
It’s no surprise this advanced technology is coming to GICC, which is the first outpatient facility in the GCC to provide cancer care that follows US clinical standards.
