Unpacking a Whole New Way to Package Food and Beverages
Packaged food has transformed how we eat. Now, GE will help a global food packaging manufacturer with significant operations in the Middle East & Africa to implement a digital transformation that will deliver new ways to delight customers.
Through a transformation that will unlock production efficiencies, flexibility, and data-driven supply-chain and operating insights, GE Digital will empower SIG, a global provider of packaging systems and solutions for the food and beverage industry, to innovate, create intelligent solutions and enable new possibilities for its customers.
SIG and its customers will be able to predict, manage and service the entire lifecycle of SIG filling lines in exciting new ways, opening up unmatched levels of performance, security, transparency and creativity across the entire food and beverage supply chain.
GE Digital and SIG announced on Wednesday a strategic partnership to implement GE Digital’s Predix Asset Performance Management (APM) and Predix ServiceMax industrial applications across more than 400 SIG customer factories worldwide. In 2017 alone, SIG produced 33.6 billion carton packs for its customers.
These manufacturing sites include those operated by SIG Combibloc Obeikan, a joint venture with Saudi-based Obeikan Investment Group, which operates across the region.
This agreement comes at a time of huge opportunity in this field. Consumers are hungry for innovative, convenient products that are safe, sustainable, affordable and differentiated. For manufacturers, digital offers help in addressing competitive pressures, growing supply chain complexities and ever-shorter production cycles.
Digital solutions also offer new ways for manufacturers to quickly identify, predict and act on changing consumer and market demands.
The unique combination of GE Digital’s APM and ServiceMax applications will enable SIG to build an end-to-end digital platform that will bring a new level of insight and data-driven intelligence to its customers worldwide.
By automatically collecting and analyzing asset data – tapping into billions of data points across its operations globally in real time – SIG and their customers can move beyond traditional asset monitoring and predictive service models to reimagine their supply chain, enhance quality control technologies and evolve their portfolio mix.
GE Digital and Obeikan are already collaborating as part of a joint agreement to establish Obeikan Digital Solutions, which provides digital transformation services to food & beverage industry companies in the region.
