Transforming Together: Saudi Engineer Supports the Vision
By Sameer Basonbul, Gas Turbine Repair Cell Leader, GE Manufacturing Technology Center, Dammam
I’ve been at GE for five years, so I’ve seen that this is a great company, with a culture and environment that helps individuals to be successful. GE has helped my personal development and my professional development by giving me daily challenges and great career development training. I always find opportunities to grow, learn and develop, which has set me on a path to become a successful leader.
As a Cell Leader at the GE Manufacturing Technology Center (GEMTEC), I’m responsible for managing the gas turbine repair operational team to ensure we achieve defined targets in safety, quality, cost and delivery.
Since joining GE, I have received several awards and recognitions for various projects and initiatives, both individually and as part of a team. But I am especially proud to have been part of the team responsible for the qualification and start-up of manufacturing at GE’s largest gas turbine repair center in the world.
This center is a great example of how GE very early on anticipated the goals of the Saudi Vision 2030. GE has for a long time worked to build the “company-to-country” relationship with Saudi Arabia, and as a result, GE has a greater presence and delivers more value in the Kingdom.
Part of this is GE’s investment in us – its employees – as local talents who are helping the company continue its journey of growth in the Middle East and North Africa region.
We at GE are supporting Saudi Vision 2030 by developing talent, localizing jobs, localizing manufacturing and developing new opportunities to localize sourcing and the supply chain. I too will be adopting the same objectives and reflecting them in my day-to-day job, where all of us at GE are working toward achieving the goals of this Vision.
Another great thing about GE is that we always have opportunities to give back to the community. Through GE Leaders of Tomorrow and the GE Campus Team, I have been able to make contributions and organize student activities that make me happy because I feel that my company and I are part of the community.
