Protecting Our Planet: One of the World’s Toughest Challenges
For more than 40 years, Earth Day has served to raise global awareness regarding the need to protect the planet. At the heart of the most recent earth days, including Earth Day 2013, is the “Earth Day Network’s A Billion Acts of Green®” – the largest environmental service campaign in the world. It collected a billion acts in time for last year’s Earth Day. Now, it’s looking to the next billion – this time focusing on specific, timely issues, such as e-waste recycling, promoting solar power and tree-planting projects that can be found here.
Endeavoring to protect the Earth is unquestionably one of the most significant challenges facing humankind. And Earth Day provides a rallying point for people across the globe to take specific action to address this challenge.
This ethos is familiar to the way GE operates, with its focus bringing commitment, technology and expertise together to address some of the world’s toughest challenges. In the Middle East, GE is working hand in hand with local partners to manufacture and/or maintain many types of transportation, energy and oil & gas equipment in facilities specially developed to address local requirements. GE provides hands-on training to thousands of people across the region in the fields of healthcare, transportation and energy.
GE is helping provide the power to energize economic development, and the equipment that is deepening transportation networks within the region and linking the Middle East with the rest of the world. Its healthcare equipment is helping authorities provide the healthcare services so necessary to enabling a productive workforce that will help the region compete globally.
And across all its operations, GE continues to expand its ecomagination portfolio of products and services that minimize their impact on the environment. ecomagination is GE’s practical way to directly contribute – day in and day out – to the principal goal of Earth Day: protecting the planet.
