Maintenance and manufacturing will help define the next phase of the strategic agreement between GE and Mubadala Aerospace, Communications Technology and Defense Services, which are celebrating five-years of strategic collaboration..

At Dubai Airshow 2013, the two parties signed an agreement that will support Mubadala’s vision to be a diversified global tier-one aerospace supplier with a focus on aerostructures, engines and components.

The agreement includes two main components, the first of which is a joint venture with a view to further enhancing the GEnx maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) relationship. This includes the possibility of establishing a regional GEnx logistics center in Abu Dhabi and a direct investment by GE in the existing GEnx engine shop.

The second component of the agreement sees GE Aviation working with Mubadala to develop engine-component manufacturing capabilities within the Emirate, with the aim of positioning Mubadala to become a tier-one engine supplier in the next decade. GE Aviation has committed to US$500 million in work packages as part this agreement.
