Digital Industrial World: Egypt’s El Noor Geh Builds an Interactive Platform to Manage Electricity Consumption
As Egypt suffers from frequent power cuts, programmers, makers and builders keep trying to find ways to prevent their work from being affected.
Essam Maged and Mostafa ElKhouly are two such entrepreneurs. They initially considered buying an electricity generator in order to continue working uninterrupted. However, they quickly faced another problem: what kind of generator to get. They couldn’t find any references online on what type of generator to buy or how many watts or amperes they needed.
So they built El-Noor Geh, a platform that provides interactive content on electricity consumption and the most efficient ways to use electrical appliances.
They launched the platform in November 2014, and updated it in March 2015 with an easier browsing and user experience for mobile, tablet, and desktop. The upgraded site helps users calculate their energy consumption down to the appliances they own.
A look into the future
Maged and ElKhouly will join dozens of MENA’s tech and data startups at the region’s first Minds + Machines conference organized by General Electric, in Dubai on November 2nd.
The two young entrepreneurs will experience GE’s Industrial Internet technology first-hand while networking with experts, analysts, leaders and peers. They will also get the chance to participate in a series of industry-focused tracks that address major sectors like aviation, energy, and healthcare.
The one day event will discuss how the Industrial Internet is revolutionizing business and technology, and the ways digital solutions are pushing productivity, efficiency, and performance to new heights.
In the keynote address, GE chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt will discuss how GE is accelerating its evolution into a “digital-industrial” company by connecting the Industrial Internet with Advanced Manufacturing technology, blurring the boundaries between hardware, software and data analytics.
Building on Immelt’s keynote, GE’s chief digital officer, Bill Ruh, will discuss Predix, GE’s cloud-based platform that connects machines, sensors and control systems to help tech innovators harness the power of the Industrial Internet.
