Clear Skies Ahead: Aviation & Tourism Reaches New Heights
Cultural diversity, political stability and vision have always been key ingredients to an attractive tourist destination. However, aviation infrastructure plays a tremendously important role as well. After all, vision is one thing; executing that vision is another. GE is proud to be partnering for progress with Abu Dhabi’s travel sector growth through aviation.
Just recently, the World Economic Forum (WEF) rated the United Arab Emirate second best in quality of roads and third in quality of air transport infrastructure worldwide. The report included these remarks: “Perhaps the most important competitive advantage of UAE travel and tourism competitiveness relates to its world-class international hubs for global air travel.” In fact, as one of the region’s established aviation hubs, Abu Dhabi has witnessed a significant 18.9 percent growth in passenger traffic at the Abu Dhabi International Airport in 2012, while the Al Bateen Executive Airport reported an increase of 11 percent in aircraft movement last year.
To meet the growing needs of the aviation sector, GE has partnered with Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies, a member of the Mubadala Development Company, the largest independent third party provider of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services and technical solutions for the commercial aviation industry in the Middle East.
In addition, the GEnx engine family will soon be powering Etihad’s fleet, creating more sustainability in the sky with energy-efficiency, reduced weight and improved performance.
