Arab Health 2015: GE Helps Dubai Tackle Heart Disease Head On
With cardiovascular disease the leading cause of death in the UAE — responsible for 30% of mortalities — GE Healthcare is partnering with Dubai Healthcare City to launch its “heart health” screening program.
The year-long campaign across the Emirate of Dubai aims to reach more than 5,000 residents. GE will set up the booths, while nurses and other support staff from Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Center and the German Heart Center will conduct the medical screenings.
People will receive basic heart health checks of blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure. Those with a positive diagnosis will be able to set up complimentary first-time consultations at the German Heart Centre and the Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Center, both clinical support partners for the campaign.
The program is part of a focus by Dubai Healthcare City and GE Healthcare to raise awareness across the UAE regarding the causes and consequences of cardiovascular disease and the benefits of early diagnosis through routine checkups.
Cardiovascular diseases include coronary heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure (hypertension), and rheumatic heart disease. These diseases can lead to traumatic health incidents such as heart attack.
GE Healthcare announced details of the initiative during Arab Health, the largest healthcare exhibition and medical congress in the Middle East.
