The Industrial Internet of Things, connected devices, and the digital world more generally, are transforming everything they touch. This is creating all types of new opportunities … and new partnerships. The most recent example: a first-of-its-kind agreement between GE and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) in the Middle East, Africa & Turkey.

The two companies will cooperate to bring GE’s breakthrough digital industrial solutions to the region at scale by building on HPE’s PartnerReady channel ecosystem of more than 1,500 partners in the region. This will include training more than 340 HPE and partner technical and sales experts on GE Digital’s digital industrial solutions.

The three-year agreement is the first collaboration of this scale and scope globally, and will focus primarily on cyber security solutions with the potential to move into other digital solutions in the future.

In the first year, HPE will act as the regional strategic master distributor for GE Digital’s cybersecurity solutions across the MEA & Turkey region, with a particular focus on the Gulf, Levant, Northern Africa, South Africa, and Turkey.

“HPE has one of the strongest program among peers to manage a partnership of this scope and scale, to bolster a secure digital ecosystem, and reach customers quickly through an innovative business model,” said Ali Saleh, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer for GE Digital MEA.

The two companies will bring critical digital and cyber security solutions to industrial controls and infrastructure networks.

“This unprecedented partnership will enable our most important customers and partners in the region to begin the journey of digital transformation in a secure environment,” Saleh added

Enabling the secure implementation of digital industrial solutions supports regional government priorities and national development agendas that seek to embrace the digital era in a secure manner.

One of the first cybersecurity solutions to be offered will be OpShield from GE Digital. OpShield was created to protect critical infrastructure and draws on years of embedded device testing and assessment of hundreds of industrial facilities.

The solution reduces risk of cybersecurity-related unplanned downtime; improves asset protection from cybersecurity-related damage; helps safeguard protected health information (PHI); reduces risk of damage to reputation and intellectual property theft due to cyber incidents; and increases customers’ confidence to connect and optimize assets.

GE Digital and HPE have also agreed to discussions around bringing Predix-based applications to the market. Predix is the platform for the Industrial Internet of Things – connecting machines, data, and people to power the digital industrial companies of the future.

Specifically, HPE and GE Digital will look at “on premise” Predix-based applications. Predix is the only platform that provides connectivity capabilities from machines, to full premises, and all the way to the cloud for a complete, integrated view of a company’s devices, processes, and people.
