Sustainable Development: Cities on the Frontline

Sustainable Development: Cities on the Frontline

January 15, 2014 at 05:01pm

With a projected 60% of the world’s population living in cities by 2030, dense urban centers are at the frontlines of sustainable development.  With urbanization comes an increased demand for energy, water, food and transportation, which all increase emissions, permanently altering the delicately balanced relationship with our environment.

Masdar City operates at the frontier of this field as one of the world’s most sustainable urban developments. It is also a special economic zone and cleantech cluster for companies looking to commercialize and deploy sustainable and renewable energy technologies.

This makes it an ideal home for GE’s first-ever ecomagination Center, which has just been inaugurated in Masdar City. Building on GE’s ecomagination initiative, a technology platform to increase customer productivity and drive cleaner energy solutions, the Center will bring together key players from across government, business, academia and the community at large to foster collaboration and develop local innovation in sustainability.

The new 840-square meter center showcases GE’s advanced technology solutions that drive efficiency in water, energy, lighting and transportation, as well as, successful customer case studies using ecomagination products. The Center will also offer training related to advancing energy and water efficiency.

Visit GE’s booth – A400 – at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center from January 20-22, to learn more about the ecomagination Center during the 7th World Future Energy Summit, one of several events that are part of the 2nd Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
