Raising Awareness: Latest Breast Imaging Techniques and Technologies
October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and GE Healthcare used this opportunity not only to share information with the general public, but also to update healthcare professionals in Jordan and the UAE on the latest developments in breast imaging.
In all, more than 70 doctors and radiologists in the two countries attended three GE Healthcare-organized Breast Screening Workshops. Led by international experts from Turkey and Italy, the sessions provided information on the latest developments in the field of mammography, digital breast tomosynthesis and automated breast ultrasound (ABUS).
These workshops are critical for improving women’s health, given that breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide and the second leading cause of cancer death among women.
The workshops in Jordan were held at the King Hussein Cancer Center and the Islamic Hospital. They were led by Prof. Dr. Erkin Arıbal, Head of Breast Radiology at the Multidisciplinary Breast Center at Acıbadem University in Turkey.
The program in the UAE was held at Dubai Hospital. The doctor-to-doctor training brought the rich experience and knowledge of breast imaging to Dubai doctors. The program included clinical lectures and case studies on tomosynthesis, contrast-enhanced spectral mammography (CESM) and ABUS in screening and diagnostic practice.
The Dubai program was led by Dr. Pierpaolo Pattacini, director of the Radiology Department at AUSL Reggio Emilia in Italy; Dr. Arıbal, and Dr. Maan Hachmi, Consultant Radiologist at Dubai Hospital.
