Largest Water Center of Excellence Tackles MENA’s Massive H2O Challenges
In one of the most water-scarce regions of the world, it’s no surprise that GE is expanding its Dubai-based Water & Process Technologies Center of Excellence — the largest-of-its-kind, purpose-built, water-related technology plant to operate by the company anywhere.
Opened in 2006 on a 38,000 sqm parcel of land in the Jebel Ali Free Zone in southern Dubai, the regional Center of Excellence focuses on providing water treatment, wastewater treatment and process system solutions and is adding 1,500 sqm of new warehouse space to the existing 6,500 sqm of built-up area.
The expansion will further improve delivery time and logistics capabilities and allow customers to operate more nimbly. It also will strengthen the existing laboratory capabilities to support the company’s growing oil and gas customer base in the region. The expansion of the facility will offer onsite storage for its fleet of mobile water treatment trailers, ready to be deployed on short notice for emergency, supplemental or extended term services.
The expansion is scheduled for completion in the next three months, a rapid delivery timeline necessary to increase the facility’s productivity in the face of growing market demand.
Given the water scarcity challenges in the Middle East and North Africa, customers of GE Water & Process Technologies benefit from the many patents for research and development accomplishments in water, wastewater, water treatment and process systems solutions. They also benefit from the division’s focus on optimizing operational performance, safeguarding operational assets and protecting the environment delivers particular benefit to customers.
