When treating cardiovascular disease, better diagnoses mean better patient care, a reality made more urgent in Pakistan, given the high burden of heart disease. A recent workshop on cardiac medical imaging, co-led by GE, is helping address this need.

GE Healthcare and Shirazi Trading, distributors of hospital equipment including diagnostic imaging systems, organized a three-day series of cardiac CT and MR workshops in Pakistan that was facilitated by Italy-based Dr. Saima Mushtaq, a world-renowned leader in the field of cardiac imaging.

The workshops helped empower physicians with hands-on experience using state-of-the-art GE medical imaging technology that provided new insights into the field of cardiac imaging and enhance clinical and patient needs. In particular, the workshop demonstrated how high-definition, low-dose imaging diagnostics are helping improve cardiovascular patient care.

“Greater efficiency, speed, flexibility, improved image clarity, better connectivity and reduced radiation dose: GE Healthcare’s technology and solutions are designed to help solve the challenges faced by healthcare providers across Pakistan,” said Dr. Mazhar Qureshi, Country Manager for GE Healthcare in Pakistan.

Dr. Mushtaq, who is a member of the Cardiovascular Imaging staff at the Centro Cardiologico Monzino, said, “There are tremendous clinical advantages to this type of CT & MR technology. The accuracy and image quality allows for great efficiencies in our clinical practice and ultimately better diagnoses for patients.”

Today, more than 70% of large hospitals across Pakistan are equipped with GE Healthcare technologies, helping healthcare providers combat cardiovascular diseases, cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
