GE Volunteers: Making Children Smile

GE Volunteers: Making Children Smile

Face-painting, hair-braiding and story telling were order of the day for more than a hundred kids suffering from long-term illness when GE Volunteers paid a visit to the NBK Hospital in Kuwait’s Sabah hospital complex.

The 15 Volunteers were taking part in the Smiles of Hope initiative alongside the Kuwait Association for the Care of Children in Hospital (KACCH). The aim was to alleviate at least some of the effects of long-term hospitalization in the children, several of whom are suffering from leukaemia and other forms of cancer, and are undertaking unpleasant and often painful treatments, including chemotherapy.

Brightening up the afternoon for the children wasn’t the only stop on a busy day for the Volunteers: earlier, they took part in a beach cleaning activity organized by ‘Keeping Kuwait Clean,’ an NGO dedicated to keeping beaches and parks in the city free of litter for all citizens to enjoy.

The GE Volunteers are part of an internal organisation that fosters a spirit of volunteerism among staff. If you want to find out more about GE Volunteers, and the work they’re doing around the world, click here for more information:
