Talented students will get the opportunity to showcase their innovative approaches to lighting at this month’s Light Middle East Event in Dubai, thanks to a GE-sponsored competition.

Two projects have been selected as part of the ‘Best in Class’ competition, which was organized by Messe Frankfurt, Mazarii Interiors and the American University in Dubai, and supported by the Professional Lighting Design Association.

The winners, one for Energy Saving Lighting Products and one for Façade Lighting, were selected based on the maturity and originality of the concept.

These concepts have now been developed by the students and will be exhibited at the event which runs from September 12 to 14 at the Dubai International Convention Centre. The two winners have won a trip to the Light+Building Show in Frankfurt.

For the ‘Energy Saving Lighting Products’ category, students had to apply their choice of energy saving light in an indoor environment, revealing the aesthetically pleasing qualities of using new lighting technologies to encourage its usage. In the ‘Façade Lighting’ category, students had to find a way of illuminating windows in order to transform the façade.

GE Lighting is an industry leader in providing lighting solutions throughout the world, and recently opened its first full-fledged distribution center in the Middle East in Jebel Ali Free Zone, Dubai.

With its Ecomagination philosophy, the company is harnessing that innovation to develop cleaner, greener technology to solve its customers’ pressing environmental challenges and, through initiatives such as the ‘Best in Class’ competition, is encouraging the region’s best students to follow suit.
