GE Healthcare Middle East Media Summit
Beyond providing products and services in the region, GE Healthcare is committed to shaping the healthcare industry not only through innovation and breakthroughs, but by bringing together the most brilliant minds and key decisions makers to address important issues that can bring about significant change for the better of the patients. It is this promise that brought together the idea of the GE Media Summit held today where healthcare experts and media from the region convened to discuss and debate the state of healthcare in the Middle East and ways to improve it. Around 30 media attended the Summit at the Fairmont Hotel in Abu Dhabi
GE’s President & CEO for Middle East and Africa, Nabil Habayeb, along with Aziz Koleilat, GE Healthcare’s General Manager for the Middle East opened the summit. Amongst the key decision makers who attended the event were Dr. Finn Goldner, Director of Health System Abu Dhabi Health Authority and Dr. Tariq Al Kuwaiter from the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia; both spoke about the state of healthcare in the region. Key GE partners like Etisalat and Gulf Capital were also present and spoke about the importance of partnerships and how they help drive necessary change.
No healthcare summit would be complete without significant input from doctors in the region. Dr. Nouralhuda Karmani (Head of Breast Imaging Unit at Al Sabah Hospital in Kuwait and the Founder of Breast Care Kuwait) gave the audience an overview of the breast cancer situation in the region, and Dr.Abdulmohsen M Alsaawi (Emergency Medicine Consultant of King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh) presented his take on the recently launched pocket sized visualization tool – Vscan.
The summit was filled with thought-provoking discussion about healthcare in the Middle East and active Q&A participation from attendees during the sessions brought up some challenging points, more of which will be covered on this blog soon.
