In this industrial city hugging the east coast of Saudi Arabia overlooking the Arabian Gulf, GE Oil & Gas is not only expanding its existing Pressure Control manufacturing facility. It’s expanding the high-value manufacturing job opportunities for Saudis and growing the range of high-caliber “Made in Saudi” equipment it’s producing for domestic and export markets.

GE has just announced completion of its new and larger 20,000 square meter facility, a multi-million-dollar project that tripled the capacity of the existing advanced-technology Pressure Control equipment manufacturing, testing and repair facility, which serves the local and regional oil and gas industry.

The increased capacity for production of Pressure Control equipment is just the first phase in a much larger expansion that will see GE Oil & Gas grow its portfolio for manufacturing equipment produced at the site.

Lorenzo Simonelli, President & CEO, GE Oil & Gas said: “This is a proud moment for GE as we continue our legacy of supporting Saudi Arabia’s oil and gas sector, dating back to the 1930’s. With today’s announcement, we have entered a new and important phase of our partnership in the Kingdom and are delighted that our partners from Saudi Aramco are here to celebrate with us. With this manufacturing expansion we are delivering on our promise to be able to bring more advanced manufacturing capacity to the Kingdom and to employ more talented Saudis.”

“The significance of this expanded GE facility lies not only in the services it will provide Saudi Aramco and the Kingdom’s wider energy sector, but also the degree to which the Kingdom appeals to investors such as GE,” Amin Nasser, president and CEO, Saudi Aramco, said at the inauguration event.

Located at the Modon (Saudi Industrial Property Authority) 2nd Industrial City in Dammam, the site, once fully developed, will be GE’s largest advanced manufacturing facility in the region.

The facility is one of four flagship sites worldwide for Pressure Control equipment that increases capacity to manufacture conventional wellhead systems, valves, trees and hangers, mud-lines, chokes and safety valves as well as drilling connectors.

This is high-value, high-precision equipment that is being used by customers in the broader Saudi oil and gas industry, as well as by other oil and gas producers around the region.

Employment at the expanded 20,000 builds on the 70% Saudization achieved across GE’s operations in Dammam. The expanding facility also will help fulfill GE’s commitment to source 70% of its supply chain from within the Kingdom. This commitment is not only good for GE, but it also strengthens local Saudi manufacturing, deepens the local supply chain for other firms, and enhances overall Saudi service capabilities and talent development.

The expansion is part of GE’s previously announced $1 billion investment commitment in the Kingdom to grow its manufacturing and services capabilities across the GE Oil & Gas portfolio, including Measurement & Control, Subsea Systems, Turbomachinery and Artificial Lift.

GE has been supporting the oil and gas sector in the region for decades, and today, in addition to providing efficiency-boosting equipment, GE offers upstream, midstream and downstream operators advanced Industrial Internet software and analytics to reduce downtown, predict maintenance and drive more value from existing assets.
