Developing Technologies to Address Climate Change

Addressing climate change is about changing behaviors and developing and adopting innovation and new technologies.

Changing behavior means things like using the stairs not the elevator, bicycling not driving, and turning off lights when leaving a room.  Leveraging innovation and technology is what GE’s ecomagination initiative is all about: finding innovative solutions to address today’s environmental challenges while also driving economic growth.

At this year’s World Future Energy Summit (WFES), which opens today in Abu Dhabi, GE is presenting real-world examples of how these ecomagination products are reducing environmental footprint and enhancing energy efficiency.  Through an augmented reality experience, visitors can learn about ecomagination products’ positive impact around the world. The GE booth features solutions in power, water, oil & gas, aviation, lighting and software.

GE’s executives also are sharing their knowledge and expertise during the conference and other events that are part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. Deb Frodl, Global Executive Director, ecomagination, GE, will be speaking on a keynote panel titled  ‘The Global Energy Context’ during the WFES Global Innovation Forum and Tim Richards, Managing Director, Government Affairs and Policy, GE Middle East, North Africa &Turkey, will be sharing his insights on a session on ‘Enabling Policies for Renewable Energy Job Creation’ at the International Renewable Energy Agency’s International Renewable Energy Job Conference.

Launched in 2005, ecomagination is GE’s strategy to promote innovative solutions to address the world’s pressing concerns related to energy efficiency, environment and economic growth. The ecomagination initiative includes a GE commitment to make $10 billion in ecomagination-related R&D investments by 2015. By the end of 2012, it had already invested $5 billion, while 2012 revenue from the ecomagination portfolio totaled $25 billion.
