BHGE Software: Helping Raise the Efficiency of Turkey’s Energy Sector

Turkey plays an important role as energy transit hub between European consumers, and Central Asian and Caucasus producers. It also has its own fast-growing energy and downstream petrochemical needs. Baker Hughes, a GE company (BHGE), is helping Turkey meet that demand with heightened efficiency.

BHGE is starting the rollout of its Asset Performance Management (APM) software that will help deliver efficiency and productivity enhancements at the STAR Refinery A.Ş. and Petkim Petrokimya Holding A.Ş. facility, both owned by the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR).

Designed to ensure safe, stable and reliable operations at the two plants, the APM software also will contribute to SOCAR’s ability to make data-informed decisions that increase asset lifecycles, lower operating costs through improved efficiency, enhance performance, and mitigate risks.

Through these APM solutions, SOCAR will be able to transform its operational data into actionable insights to lower costs, raise productivity, and ensure maximum output at the two plants, which already are among the largest in the region. STAR Refinery has a capacity of 10 million tons per annum (MTPA), while Petkim Petrochemicals has a capacity of 3.6 MTPA.

The two plants “are central to our strategy of diversifying energy supply to Turkey and Europe, with Turkey as a key hub for energy transport and production,” said Emil Eminov, Chief Operating Officer of SOCAR Turkey Enerji A.Ş.

The APM solution is a first-of-its-kind digital project for BHGE in Turkey and builds on the company’s deep history in the country. Its fullstream support to partners and customers includes pipeline and gas storage facilities for BOTAŞ, onshore and offshore drilling activities for Turkish Petroleum (TP), mainline turbo compressors and multiple process equipment for TANAP (Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline) and power generation and various measurement and control technologies for TÜPRAŞ.
