Australia looks to GE and Al Shaheen Energy Services in Qatar for pipeline solutions
PII Pipeline Solutions, a GE Oil & Gas and Al Shaheen Energy Services joint venture, is a leading provider f technologies, skills and field experience needed to determine the present and future condition of a pipeline. Ongoing investigations to maintain pipeline quality is crucial to keep down the costs and operational implications, as well as dangerous implications (e.g. gas leaks) caused by damaged pipelines.
Reinforcing the strength of the GE-Al Shaheen joint venture is its recent selection to help improve the long-term security of two of Australia’s most important natural gas pipelines: The 1,400-kilometer Dampier-to-Bunbury Pipeline (DBN – one of Western Australia’s key energy supply assets), and the 2,029 long Moomba-to-Sydney Gas Pipeline..
Since the 1970’s Qatar has been a gas-rich nation and an important hub for the global oil and gas industry. Qatar’s economy remains buoyant as investments in its liquefied natural gas industry continue to grow and additional oil capacity leads to increased export volumes.
A key player in Qatar – Al Shaheen Energy Services, owned by Qatar Petroleum – was established to develop partnerships in the oil and gas industries and plays an important role in the sector. GE’s strategic decision to tie-up with Al Shaheen in Qatar to support regional and global energy industries, as well as the Australia pipelines project are solid testimony to Qatar’s strength as a major power in the oil and gas industry.
