(English) ArabNet Digital Summit: Developing a healthcare ecosystem digitally
The ArabNet Digital Summit began earlier this week at the Metropolitan Hotel in Beirut. The five-day Summit aims to bring together the best professionals to discuss the digital future of their respective industries. GE hosted a discussion on building health-related communities through social media engagement.
The session presented GE’s Healthymagination case study in Saudi Arabia. Healthymagination is GE’s commitment to help more people have access to quality healthcare at a lower cost. The company has allocated 1 billion dollars to the initiative with the aim of helping 10 million patients all over the world by 2020.
Using online and social media, GE has helped build a health-conscious community in the Kingdom that helps them focus on becoming healthier by providing the right information and encouraging the sharing of ideas. The Healthymagination portal (www.healthymagination.me) includes information like healthy recipes, easy tips for making your lifestyle healthier, articles on food and nutrition, and discussions on healthcare issues in the Kingdom and region.
Internet penetration in Saudi Arabia is at 50% and the use of social media is growing at a phenomenal pace. The web is therefore an effective tool used to facilitate the community health awareness building program in the Kingdom. GE’s case study was presented at the Summit’s Industry Day by Hani Chohan, Marketing Leader, Imagination Breakthrough, Eastern & African Growth Markets at GE Healthcare, and Melanie Clancy, Head of Content, Digital Arts at TBWA\RAAD.
Industry Day at ArabNet discussed the way that web and mobile are transforming traditional industries, including healthcare, banking, government and education. Professionals from all sectors came together to gain a better insight on the role technology plays in the future growth of their industry.
Over 100 globally renowned speakers have come together for five days at ArabNet to share their expertise in the digital space. The Summit also has an Ideathon and Startup Demo Competition that will introduce the top 20 digital entrepreneurs and startups in the region. The Summit ends on March 31.
