The Middle East is one of the fastest growing regions for aviation in the world. For GE, this rapid growth has led to significant aircraft engine orders in the last decade with more than 2,000 GE and CFM56 engines in operation or on order with Middle East airlines.

This rapid fleet growth has created new opportunities for airline flight-line and maintenance crews that GE will support through its technical education and training programs through its new Advanced Technology & Research Center. The Center is set to be the hub for training of GE Aviation and GE Energy customers in the Middle East.

Its training program mirrors GE Aviation’s training program offered at its premier training facility located at its Cincinnati, Ohio headquarters. GE Aviation anticipates training up to 500 students a year in the five digital classrooms and 14 engine/tooling bays in the new center at the Qatar Science & Technology Park.

Students will receive training on line maintenance, on wing boroscope inspection and repair, troubleshooting and engine diagnostics monitoring on various engine lines. The center will also provide technical and mechanical services to airline customers through GE’s On Wing Support program.

The CFM56 series is a family of high-bypass turbofan aircraft engines made by CFM International — a 50–50 joint-owned company of SNECMA (major French manufacturer of engines for commercial and military aircraft) and GE Aviation. CFM is the world’s leading manufacturing of commercial aircraft engines and has produced more than 19,500 engines to date. The high reliability, long on-wing life, and low maintenance costs make the CFM56 extremely popular with major airlines, low-cost carriers, and leasing companies worldwide.
